Melopita Cheesecake Recipe

Melopita cheesecake recipe is an absolute people pleaser and packed full of flavour. It’s a perfect combination of creamy cheesecake with the natural sweetness and aroma of honey. Its soft texture makes it a favourite for any occasion, whether it’s a birthday party or lunch with friends. Melopita (honey pie) is a Greek dessert traditionally made with mastic resin. Mastic resin is obtained from the mastic tree and has a unique, slightly pine-like taste.

Melopita is typically served chilled, allowing the flavours to meld and the texture to set.

It may be garnished with a dusting of powdered sugar, a dollop of whipped cream, or even some chopped nuts for added texture.

The combination of creamy cheese, sweet honey, and the subtle citrus notes make Melopita a unique and indulgent dessert, showcasing the delicious flavours of Greek cuisine.

Ingredients:

500g cream cheese

1 cup Greek yoghurt

1 cup sugar

4 eggs

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup BOYLES IRISH PANTRY honey

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon mastic powder (optional, for a traditional touch)

Zest of one lemon

Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 160°C (325°F). Grease a springform pan and line the bottom with greaseproof paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth and creamy.
  3. Add the sugar and continue to beat until well combined.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Mix in the Greek yoghurt, flour, honey, vanilla extract, mastic powder (if using), lemon zest, and a pinch of salt. Mix until the batter is smooth and well combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared springform pan.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, or until the centre is set and the top is golden brown.
  8. Allow the cheesecake to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then run a knife around the edge to loosen it. Let it cool completely before refrigerating for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  9. Once chilled, remove the cheesecake from the pan and serve. Before serving, drizzle honey over the top of the chilled cheesecake. Optionally, sprinkle sliced almonds or other nuts for added texture.

Enjoy your Melopita Cheesecake! Keep in mind that the mastic resin is optional and can be omitted if you don’t have access to it. Feel free to adjust the recipe according to your preferences, and enjoy this delightful combination of creamy cheesecake and the sweet, honey-infused Greek flavours.
